Belonging in the Catholic Church w/ Dr. Scott Sollom - The Bible Timeline Show w/ Jeff Cavins
What does it mean to belong in the Catholic Church? Perhaps, you have heard the Catholic Church referred to as a family or as a community. That sounds nice, but what does it actually mean for the identity of the Church and her members? Jeff Cavins and Dr. Scott Sollom dive into the idea of Church as relational, as family. They discuss the different ways in which it is essential that the faithful see themselves as a family in relationship with God and each other.

Biblical Evidence for the Authority of the Catholic Church w/ Jeff Cavins and Fr. Pablo Gadenz
Переглядів 4,9 тис.Місяць тому
Does the Catholic Church have any actual authority, and where does this authority come from? The Church has existed for over two millennia and encompasses over a billion members worldwide. However, does this longevity and size imply that God founded it and granted it divine authority? Scripture scholar Fr. Pablo Gadenz joins Jeff Cavins on The Bible Timeline Show to examine the biblical evidenc...

But how far should we go to uphold truth and morality? In this discussion, Fr. Mike Schmitz and Jeff Cavins delve into this question, drawing insights from accounts found in 1 and 2 Maccabees. The Babylonian Exile was a dark time for the Israelites. Jeff Cavins chose the color for this time period in the Bible Timeline because of the "blues" that the Jews were experiencing in exile, distant from God's presence in the Holy Temple. In this episode, Fr. Joseph Taphorn joins Jeff Cavins to explore the various ways in which modern Catholics may find themselves or their loved ones in a sta...

Just before I left for work I opened my bible, given that we have just had an election, look what I read. Eccl 9 v17-18 The quiet words of the wise are more to be heeded, than the shouts of a ruler of fools. Wisdom is better than weapons of war, but one sinner destroys much good. I think they call it a God wink!

It's my understanding that the deaconesses in the Bible assisted in tasks like distributing communion outside of liturgy similar to an emhc today with the homebound and they also assisted in the baptism of women as baptism was done naked in the early church

Grace be with you through Jesus Christ. Catholics do not match anything in the Bible. Ezekiel 13:2, It's a sin to call Mike "father". Matthew 23:8. Easter is not in the Bible, Passover is in the Bible. Christians honor Jesus resurrection and Passover and Feast of unleavened bread in the same week. Matthew 22:17.Exodus 12. Forced celibacy of priests and nuns, and forced poverty to give up their worldly possessions is not in the Bible. 1Timothy 3:2. Rosaries are forbidden. Matthew 6:7. You are supposed to use Anointing oil not Holy Water. James 5:14 and Exodus 40:9.

“I would rather be lame so God can make me a remnant “ these words are not familiar to me. That’s why I searched about it and found it’s meaning based on St. Francis De Sales. There’s a website entitled “We are the Remnants” that you can lookup to. The wonderful thing about “the remnant” is that it is always forward-looking. From the crisis of the Church today, a new and vibrant Church can evolve. We may be small today, unable to fill the great Churches built in our heyday, but we can be dynamic and alive in our faith and our commitment to live like Christ. We can be the seed sown by the Lord, which will bear much fruit. Using the words “I would rather be lame so God can make me a remnant “ is when I avoid sins that is so normal for me to do but lame not to do it. Because I want God to make me a remnant, a part of people. They are a people who are faithful to the Lord despite the lack of faith and dishonorable living of those around them.

Reflecting on all the Kings, my goodness, shows us God's limitless mercy-a God of second chances whose love transcends human failings; no depth of sin can thwart the love and forgiveness of God. We discover the path to redemption and renewal through contrite repentance and humility. God is SO good! May God work in all of us to give us hearts that are discerning to His Word, His working in us, and glorifying God in all we think and do. Sending prayers for Fr. I have decided that I am not going to worry about that. The important thing is i keep pushing play. Also if I finish June 30, 2025 I am ok with that.

A great reminder to make good use of our time on Earth so that God is glorified and we attain salvation. * Hezekiah shows that a longer life doesn't always mean better, happier or a life full of achievements. *Hezekiah seems to have forgotten that he was going to die but God gave him 15 years. Despite that, he was proud of the riches he had and showed them to the Babylon messengers. He forgot that he was not going to take anything with him after death except his soul. His pride probably caused him to show everything but that caused the downfall of Judah. * Hezekiah being indifferent to the word of God about Judah's exile shows that he only cared about the present and not the future after his demise. We must pray for the wellbeing of everyone in the present and the future. *Saint Dominic Savio- Better to die than to commit a mortal sin. Similar to how Jesus said that we must cut off the things that cause us to sin. We must also choose to not sin because the consequences of sinning are worse than the consequences of not sinning. Saint Dominic is also an excellent example of how even a short lived person can impact the world so much! * Hezekiah’s son Manasseh did evil things like sacrificing his own son, witchcraft, soothsaying, and idolatry. This might have been because of Hezekiah's indifference to what his children were doing or going to do. Similar to how Hezekiah didn't care about Judah's future. We must not be like him but like Jesus. Thank you, Fr Mike and Team Ascension. God bless you and the fellow listeners

An excellent reminder to care not just for self but for others, especially those in the future. *Psalm 144- Prayer for National Deliverance is a very apt prayer for wishing for the good of the entire nation. Especially on the 4th of July! * Hezekiah’s faith and trust in God even after hearing about his death helped him to gain 15 years of life. We must also trust in God when we are in trouble. *Hezekiah couldn't end his journey well because he showed everything from his house to the Babylon messengers. He should’ve been wiser. Another thing is his apathy / carelessness about the future of Judah. Thus, his last sentence about God's word showed that he only cared enough for his kingdom and until he was the king. A true leader and a true God’s person should care for the present and the future generations too, like how Jesus sacrificed Himself for us. How David also worked for the betterment of his son Solomon's future and the goal of the temple building. * Thus, praying for self and others is great but we must also pray for the future generations and care for them. Like how God cares for everyone. Thank you, Fr Mike and Team Ascension. God bless you and the fellow listeners

Today it is July 4, 2024. And I was thinking about myself and family as I listened. Father’s request for prayers for future generations “whatever time we are” - well all I could think of was the Multi-Verse. Our time is not God’s time. It also reminded me of the movie, Arrival, with Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner. God and this Universe is Limitless while we as humans are Limited.
